New Name, New Me

Okay, that’s not really true—I did give this here blog a new name, but it’s still the same old me.  Not that that means anything to anyone on here as I haven’t posted a single update in months.  I do hope to change that though, and I figured a less specific “theme” might motivate me to post more often.

You see, labeling yourself as the “Midwest Marathoner” implies two things: 1) you’re going to post about running; and 2) you’ve actually run a marathon.  While the former was true—I did post about running—the latter was completely false.  Sure, when I started this blog I was indeed training for the Chicago marathon—training to truly become a “Midwest Marathoner” as I explained in my About section—but those dreams fell flat in September.  To be honest, I gave up.  I could go on and make excuses, waxing poetic about how I was having ankle pains or how vacations and a new schedule messed up my training plan, but at the end of the day, the bottom line’s the same.  I did not run the marathon.  I am not a “Midwest Marathoner.”  I could be a “Midwest Half-Marathoner” but that just doesn’t have the same ring to it, am I right?

And you know what?  Even if I had run the marathon (and, boy, do I wish I had), I still would have likely wanted to change this blog.  Don’t get me wrong, I enjoy running I really do—but writing about it just doesn’t excite me too much.  I’d much rather write about my life in general.  Like how I went go-karting this past weekend, or how I’m slowly developing an unhealthy obsession with ping-pong and Breaking Bad and playing ping-pong while watching Breaking Bad, etc..  I don’t want to feel pigeon-holed by the title/url of my blog; I want to write about what I want to write about.  And sometimes, I just don’t want to write about running (and sometimes I do..).

As for my new name, “Girls Meets Blog,” I have no idea what it’s supposed to mean.  It just popped into my head this morning in the shower, and since I kinda like it, I’m going with it.  It’s a damn shame the URL was already taken though (that missing ‘s’ is no typo).
